Muskoka Chautauqua offers creative, multi-disciplinary arts-based programming for entertainment and life-long learning. It is a vibrant community, encompassing the arts, education and reflection, where visitors come for personal growth, enrichment and renewal. It is a place removed from the day-to-day world, where practitioners and leading thinkers of our time share innovative and creative ideas; a place where the arts blend with the natural beauty of Muskoka and where the human spirit and all its hidden talents may be liberated and soar.
As the only Chautauqua in Canada, Muskoka Chautauqua represents the country on the International Chautauqua Trail, a network that connects the 14 existing Chautauqua communities in North America.
Muskoka Chautauqua has a colourful history, which began with the Muskoka Assembly of the Canadian Chautauqua, established on Tobin's Island almost 100 years ago. This historic organization was resurrected in 2010, when the organization previously known as Muskoka Lakes Music Festival rebranded as Muskoka Chautauqua and aligned itself with the Chautauqua movement. Muskoka Chautauqua's year-round programming is exciting and diverse, including concerts, literary events and authors' talks, culinary celebrations, community forums, art workshops and exhibitions, children's festivals and more. Events take place across Muskoka.
