Muskoka is a paddler's paradise. Known for our sparklinig clear lakes and rivers, paddlers come from around the world to experience Muskoka's beauty at its finest, from the water. Muskoka has a number of popular canoe routes that have been travelled on for centuries, ranging in degree of difficulty and length.

With one national park, 11 provincial parks, and countless canoe routes throughout the region, hitting the water for a paddle in Muskoka is a favourite among locals and visitors alike. If you don't have your own mode of water transportation, there are a number of outfitters with kayak and canoe rentals available, all across the Muskoka region.

Many of Muskoka's resorts and cottage resorts have canoes and kayaks available for their guests to use. Inquire with your resort when booking to see what is made available to guests.

 

Popular Canoe & Kayak Routes

In Bracebridge, Liv Outside backs on to the South Branch of the Muskoka River. You can rent a canoe or kayak and paddle your way towards Muskoka's largest waterfall in downtown Bracebridge, Bracebridge Falls. Or take the longer, more scenic route up the south branch of the Muskoka River and visit the spectacular Muskoka Falls.

In Huntsville, Algonquin Outfitters backs onto the North Branch of the Muskoka River. Rent a canoe or kayak and cruise through beautiful historic downtown Huntsville, taking in the sights and sounds of this charming town. After your done paddling, stop in for a bite to eat at one of Huntsville's excellent restaurants downtown.

Swift Outdoor Centre in Georgian Bay has a large canoe and kayak rental fleet, and offers an entirely different paddling experience. Georgian Bay offers big water paddling in the world's largest freshwater archipelago where you can admire the wind swept pines and rugged Georgian Bay Coast.

Algonquin Outfitters Oxtongue Lake has canoe and kayak rentals, and features a popular route to one of most the majestic waterfalls in the region, Ragged Falls. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the beautiful site from shore.

Haliburton Highlands Water Trails consists of 26,985 hectares of crown and municipal lands historically known as the Frost Centre Area and is comprised of countless lakes, rivers, trails and continuous forest.  The Haliburton Highlands Water Trails is dedicated to the protection and improvement of the canoe route environment in the Haliburton Highlands.
