Ask any of the parents lounging dockside at Rocky Crest Golf Resort and you’ll hear the same answer again and again: the single best thing about this resort is its kid-focused vibe. Everyone seems to be on the same wavelength – the parents get to relax, while the kids get to mingle and have fun. The Lake Joseph pool, inflatable waterpark, and dockside amenities are in such close proximity that parents can easily keep an eye on the kids while allowing them the independence to explore and play (and get the chance to kick back a bit themselves too).
And while the kids love taking stand up paddleboards, pedal boats, canoes, and kayaks out onto the water (all of which are complimentary and included in the resort amenity fee!), and climbing, sliding, and jumping on the waterpark, by far one of the dockside favourites is Kids Fishing.
Every morning during the summer from 9 to 10 am, kids gather at the dock to hone their skills. The braver kids love digging in the soil cups for dew worms, and trying to hook their first bait. Others allow the staff to assist with the dirty work, and simply enjoy dipping their line in the early morning water and waiting for a bite.
There’s nothing better than the sea of squeals that erupts when one of the kids cries, “I caught one!!!” Though the Sunfish congregate here every morning in numbers (fishing here is a bit akin to that classic Sesame Street skit- “Here, fishy fishy fishy!”), the surprise and delight of a catch doesn’t seem to diminish, no matter how many times it happens.
Afterwards, many of the families take the short 2-minute walk over to Windows Restaurant for the breakfast buffet, which is free for kids under 3, and only $8 for the older ones.
