If you have an appreciation for Canadian art and Algonquin adventures, this experiential weekend will amaze
August 23, 2018 – MUSKOKA ON
This weekend getaway is all about reliving the work of Canada’s most iconic artist, Tom Thomson.
Tom Thomson is famous for giving Canadian art its own identity, and is heralded as the inspiration for the The Group of Seven. Known for his love of the outdoors, Tom spent many summers in Algonquin Park and the surrounding area, sketching and painting the area’s natural landscapes. Algonquin Park inspired some of Tom’s most revered pieces of art (including The Jack Pine and The Canoe), but Tom’s connection to Algonquin Park is also tied to the mysterious accounts surrounding his death on Canoe Lake in 1917.
Any way you slice it, the impact that Tom Thomson had on Canadian art is too extraordinary for description. You will just have to experience it yourself to truly understand, and you can do just that with The Spirit of Tom Thomson Weekend Package.
Follow Tom’s Final Days
Deerhurst Resort and Eclipse Art Gallery have come together to create The Spirit of Tom Thomson Package, a 2-night experiential package September 21 – 23, 2018.
The highlight of the weekend will undoubtedly be the guided tour into Algonquin Park to paddle Canoe Lake. The tour will be lead by local artist and Group of Seven Outdoor Gallery founder Gerry Lantaigne – who as you can imagine is immensely knowledgeable about all things Tom Thomson. The guided paddle will take you back a century, showing the artist’s favourite spots on the lake and stopping at Thomson’s memorial cairn, diving into the mystery and intrigue surrounding his death. This behind-the-scenes look at one of Canada’s most profound artists will be an art experience you will cherish forever.
