The Dorset Lookout Tower offers one of the most remarkable views in Ontario, and is well worth the trip to the charming town of Dorset on Lake of Bays. The breathtaking 360 degree view of the beautiful Muskoka landscape is truly one that you must experience for yourself.
The tower stands 142 metres above Lake of Bays. The 30 metre climb is steep but there are a number of spots for you to stop and take a break, so just go at your own pace. Even if you are a little uneasy with heights, you should be able to manage the climb to the enclosed observation deck to marvel in the view.
A trip to the Dorset Lookout Tower is a great experience in spring, summer and fall, but definitely most popular during the fall season. When the leaves change, leaf peepers come from all over to get a bird’s eye view of the amazing colour display. Word of the wise, if you want to visit during the fall, pick a weekday to make the trip. Weekends are extremely busy during the fall, and you can potentially experience long lines and wait times.
Dorset is also home to the SS Bigwin, Dorset Heritage Museum and the Robinson General Store, two must-dos while you are in the area. Visit the small town after your climb for a bite to eat, a place to shop, and to grab the SS Bigwin for a sightseeing cruise on Lake of Bays.
