Norman Bethune, an innovative thoracic surgeon, made noteworthy advancements in his field through inventing and improving surgical instruments. His dedication to the well-being of soldiers and civilians during the Sino-Japanese War (between Japan and China) earned him hero status in the People’s Republic of China. Additionally, he played a pioneering role in advocating for universal healthcare in Canada. Currently, around 12,000 tourists visit each year, with approximately 90% of them being Chinese.
