Cherie Daly Art welcomes you to her Studio in the Woods minutes from Port Carling, near the corner of Hwy 118 and Brackenrig Road. Please call ahead – to ensure the artist is in. This is a working studio, where you can chat to the artist and see her abstract acrylic paintings on canvas or wood. A sign indicates the cottage road to turn off at 1053 Brackenrig Rd. The studio itself is a unique wood and glass structure custom designed and built by Yuillbuilt, who also has a mill and woodlot just outside of Dwight at North on 60. Although she draws inspiration for colour from the nature around her studio, her love is abstract painting. An introvert at heart, but also someone who finds it hard to keep quiet when she has a strong reaction, making art is her way of speaking her mind. The simple pleasure of mixing colours and spreading gobs of paint on a canvas brings back the playfulness of childhood that is so important to her process. She generates movement through her body, making expressive marks to create the energy in a painting. Her internal dialogue and feelings are translated through this movement into the work. Following her intuition, she explores relationships between shapes, lines, colours and textures. Her work is left raw, to retain the energy and beautiful initial marks, to create joy not perfection, and to leave room for the viewer.
