About

The Dorset Heritage Museum officially opened on July 1, 2001 and is located at Dorset, Ontario at the crossroads of Muskoka and Haliburton. Featuring early exhibits of early pioneer life, local settlers, traditional logging practices and historic information pertaining to pioneer settlement of the Dorset area.

The Dorset Heritage Museum prepares information and exhibits for adults, as well as feature exhibits designed for youth. With the closure of the school in Dorset, our community is very committed to sharing “the way it was” with our children. Our summer residents also want to treasure and respect the importance and uniqueness of their adopted community, and safeguard its future development.

The Management Committee hopes to accomplish these goals through participation in entertaining and informative activities. The Museum gives talks and participates in local community events year round and opens upon request in the off-season. We also provide visitors with area information, located in the reception area of the museum.

The Dorset Heritage Museum is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through the springtime. From July until Thanksgiving, the Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
