Muskoka Itineraries: Day Trips to Weeklong Escapes

Muskoka is for adventure or a relaxing day at the beach! Check out 5 different itineraries to fit your speed or style. 

With Muskoka 3,937.76 km2 there’s lots to see, with the region of Muskoka made up of six communities. Each community offering that Muskoka feeling with it’s own unique restaurants, shops and seasonal adventures. Dive into the Muskoka experience and discover what each area has to offer.

Morning 

Stop by the Gravenhurst Wharf and check out the iconic Muskoka Steamships on your drive up. Grab a coffee at The Wheelhouse Cafe and breakfast at Roksy’s CafeAfter you finish your coffee and breakfast hop in the car and get on Hwy 11. Take exit 182 to visit Muskoka Falls. Get back on Hwy 118 towards Bracebridge and turn right before the Muskoka River bridge to stop and take in the view of beautiful Bracebridge Falls.

Afternoon 

After walking around the Bracebridge Falls drive down Manitoba St through downtown Bracebridge to get to The Old Station Restaurant for lunch. After lunch drive down to Wilson’s Falls Rd. Follow this road to the very end and park in the trail parking lot to go for a scenic 1 km hike to Wilson’s FallsDrive back the way you came and turn left down Taylor Rd towards High Falls. After checking out the falls take the scenic backroads to get to Sherwood InnCheck into the hotel and relax before going to dinner and enjoying the great food and getting a fine dining experience at the Vintages Dining Room.

Evening  

After having a relaxing evening leave the hotel at 8:00pm and go for a 30-minute drive to Huckleberry Rock lookout to see the Sunset at 9:00pm (summer). Head back to Sherwood Inn and look through all the scenic pictures you took throughout the day before going to sleep.

Day 1: 

Head up to Muskoka with a scenic drive to Bala within Muskoka Lakes. When you arrive park your car and walk to the beautiful Bala Falls for a picturesque view. 

After your walk around Bala checking out some of the local shops like Pure Muskoka get back in the car and head down to Jack and Stella’s for some live music (every Saturday in the summer) and great food. 

After having a drink and relaxing on the patio follow the Bala Historic Walk through downtown to learn more about this beautiful and quaint town. After the walk eat dinner at Bala Falls Pub and get their famous fish and chips or try The Pearl for a delicious curated menu. After dinner watch your favourite artist perform live at The Kee to Bala. After the concert head down to The Dudley Inn a recently upgraded modern motel and spend the night.

Day 2:

Start your day by eating a great breakfast at The Hook and Ladder Bar & Grill before driving to Muskoka Lakes Farm and Winery to check out the cranberry farm and taste test some locally made wine.

After meet up with Muskoka Wake for an afternoon on the water trying water skiing or wakeboarding. Looking to grab a quick lunch? Try the tasty BBQ from The Smokin’ Birds in Bala. 

Afterwards, take a dip at a local beach Jaspen Park or Hanna Park within Muskoka Lakes. Looking to end the day with a patio? Check out Water’s Edge on Lake Joseph. 

Day 3: 

Grab breakfast at Beveragino Cafe in Port Carling or a tasty breakfast sandwich from York and Mason. While in town, explore the many shops, docks, beaches and “The Wall” one of the largest murals made with photos.

Buy some smoked trout and a chicken pot pie from the Milford Bay Cafe for dinner. After eating drive to the Huckleberry Rock parking lot and hike up the trail to see the most beautiful sunset lookout in Muskoka.

Day 4: 

Head to Fresh Cutz Market and Grill for a delicious breakfast. After go to Liv Outside to rent a kayak so that your can explore the Muskoka river and see the Bracebridge Falls from below.

Rent a mountain bike and go to Porcupine Ridge Mountain Bike Park down the street. Eat and stay at Basilico Inn at the Falls and enjoy their authentic Italian cuisine.

Day 5: 

Wake up and have breakfast at Bethune’s Bistro before going back to the resort for a round of Golf.

After a great round of golf on one of the best courses in Canada head down to The Oar Restaurant for a fantastic lunch.

After lunch walk around Gravenhurst to see historic sites and learn more about the history of the town. After eat dinner at 19th Hole Gastro Pub situated within Taboo Resort before driving home and reflecting on all the amazing experiences you had throughout the week.

Day 1: 

Start you culinary journey at Old Mill Family Restaurant for a great breakfast and coffee. After you have breakfast and tea go for a cruise on one of the Muskoka Steamships and take in all the sights on beautiful Lake Muskoka.

After breakfast head downtown Gravenhurst to shop at Muskoka Bear Wear for cozy Muskoka wear and to buy some tasty treats at The Bakery. After buying some of the best donuts in Muskoka go to Roksy’s Cafe for a great lunch.

Day 2:

Eat breakfast at the resort before taking a scenic drive to Port Severn passing many of Muskoka’s pristine lakes.

Upon arriving in Port Severn park your car and walk through downtown Port Severn to check out the locks and local shops before taking a dip in Little Lake. After you get dried off head to Lighthouse 45 at Rawley Resort for a delicious lunch. 

Head to Severn Lodge after seeing the town for a fine dining experience.

Wake up and have breakfast at the hotel before driving to Bala for lunch.

Stop at The Bala Falls Pub for some great fish and chips before walking around town. While walking around town visit Lake Wear MuskokaPure MuskokaTwigsCacao Boys, and Cottage Friends for some great gifts and clothes. 

After checking out all these shops drive up to the luxurious JW Marriott on Lake Rosseau to enjoy some high quality meats at The Chophouse for dinner.

Wake up and eat breakfast at the Country Market Resort Cafe as it is the perfect place to get a cappuccino and breakfast pastries. 

After breakfast take a beautiful drive down Hwy 118 through the Huckleberry rock cut on your way to Bracebridge. Once you arrive go for a hike to Wilson’s Falls before eating lunch and having a beer at the Lake of Bay’s Brewing Co. Bracebridge Barrelhouse

After Lunch check into the Inn at the Falls. After checking in walk to Bracebridge Falls and The Ice Cream Shoppe before going back to the hotel for some great Italian food at Basilico.

Day 5: 

Start the day at Olivers Coffee for some breakfast before hitting the road again.

Drive to Huntsville to walk The Hunters Bay Trail for some scenic views of Hunter’s Bay before grabbing lunch at Main St Local Restaurant.

After a great lunch, explore Huntsville’s historic sites and museums. After stop in at 3 Guys and a Stove before getting a Beaver Tail for dessert. After you finish up your delicious beavertails stay at Deerhurst Resort for the night.

Day 6: Start the day off at The Eclipse Restaurant for a great breakfast with a view. 

After breakfast drive to Erika’s in Dwight to get some of their famous breakfast bagels and butter tarts. After take a drive down Hwy 60 to Dorset to go for a hike up The Dorset Lookout Tower and take pictures of the beautiful view. 

After lunch eat a tasty dinner at Pizza On Earth before checking into Blue Spruce Resort. 

Day 7: 

Start the day off by driving down to Baysville and eating breakfast at Miss Nelle’s Antique Cafe.

Take a walk through Baysville before eating a spectacular lunch at Bigwin Island Golf Club. After lunch go on a kayak tour of the Muskoka river with Muskoka River Adventures.

Day Seven: Evening

After the tour stop in at Cast Iron Stove on your way home for some great pub food.
